My work looks at internal and external identity. I am interested in the relationship between appearance and how we see and present ourselves and also how that is received by others. The majority of my inspiration comes from reflecting on my own identity. Receiving support for Anxiety Disorder and PTSD I began seeing myself differently; I felt free and empowered. I wanted to embody the new person that I was becoming released from emotional restraint. I choose the act of shaving off my hair as I had wanted to for many years but never had the courage to do so. This new version of myself/a clean slate allows me to look in the mirror and see all things possible. Emergence is a record of this transformation.
The images are printed on Instax Mini Instant Film to convey a sense of real-time and intimacy of these moments and are displayed upright on a transparent shelf to further suggest freedom.
